Aubrey, the daughter of a Marine who will not be coming home, stares out her front door, along with golden retriever Harper, missing their Dad. Starting in World War I, families of service members flew a flag with a blue star for each person from that family who had been called to duty. The blue star was replaced with a gold star if he or she was killed. The Gold Star Family tradition remains in place today.
