Two tired and battle-hardened Allies, a French soldier (“Poilu”) and a U.S. Marine, both with rifles and fixed bayonets are in intense conversation. The Marine, holding his Springfield Model 1903 rifle, is in a listening mode. The roughness of the etching further enhances the grittiness of the setting. There was great respect between the French and U.S. Marines during the war.
