This poster was designed by a former enlisted Marine who joined the Marine Corps in early 1945. Howard Terpning, a commercial artist and illustrator, designed the iconic postersfor The Sound of Music, Gone with the Wind, and The Guns of Navarrone. Terpning was also a civilian combat artist during the Vietnam War. He is best known for his paintings of Native Americans and the American West.
