I painted the Lake Cohasset Falls en plein air (plain air) in oils on a 16x20 canvas. My husband and I have hiked the trails that surround it countless times, which helped me choose this view before returning to paint with my artist friends. I decided it was worth the risk to carry my canvas and painting gear down the steep, and somewhat dangerous path to the bottom of the falls. I set up on one of the flat rocks that provided a great view looking up at the west side of the falls. I listened to the loud roar of the falls while drawing and painting on that hot summer day. I didn't finish so I painted several more times in my studio referring to my photos before returning to paint a second time. I had to stop painting due to a change in the weather but painted a few more times in my studio until finally, it was ready to frame! Sometimes its better to paint smaller in plein air to come closer to finishing it on location. But for this one, I'm so glad I painted it big! I now have 24 paintings in my Mill Creek Park themed collection that I hope to invite you to see in The Weller Gallery in Fellows Riverside Gardens in the near future.
