The Skipper |
Chief Warrant Officer 2 Michael D. Fay, USMCR |

Accession Number: 2007.70.1
Original work: Bronze Sculpture
Original size: 15.5 by 9 inches
In the combat artist’s words: “ This sculpture is the first I ever attempted and is the result of the ‘lost wax’ technique. The image is based on two company commanders I spent time with during my last deployment from September 2005 to February 2006. After being out in the field for extended periods with these officers, I was particularly impressed with the weight of command these guys bore every day. These late 20-something Marines never got to drop their packs. After a long day of operations and patrols, they returned to their forward operating bases and started another round of cares and duties. The image tries to capture the moment after a skipper removes his helmet, takes a momentary exhausted pause, draws in a breath, and launches into his FOB side of responsibilities.”
