A pair of Sikorsky UH-34Ds touch down in a landing zone southwest of Da Nang in South Vietnam. Using Marine helicopters to lift troops in and out of enemy-held territory on “search and destroy” missions was a common tactic to keep pressure on enemy forces. The UH-34D went to Vietnam in 1962 with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 362 and became the Corps' workhorse helicopter, flying troop transport, assault, cargo, medevac, and other missions. It was tough, dependable, and adaptable.
