"Hit by sniper in left hip - 7:30 in evening - too dark to see him. January first landed at a native village in Lockheed airplane - marched up Sepuda [Soputa] (Between Goona [Gona] and Buna) marched 2 miles beyond and rounded Jap road block replacing Australians from Sidney [sic] - Jan 5 my brother was hit - Fighting started Jan 3rd. Hit Jan 19th. Carried ammunition and supplys [sic] and then used rifle."
