The Grumman C-2 Greyhound is carrier onboard delivery (COD) and is designed to carry supplies, mail, high-priority cargo, and passengers to and from aircraft carriers of the U.S. Navy and shore bases.
The prototype C-2s first flew in 1964 with production following the next year. The initial order Greyhound aircraft were then overhauled in 1973. Additional C-2As were ordered in 1984. In 2010, all C-2A aircraft were equipped with eight-blade propellers and “glass cockpits.” Starting in 2020, the US Navy will begin to replace the remaining 27 C-2As with 38 vertical-takeoff CMV-22Bs, and is expecting to fully replace the entire C-2 fleet by 2024.
