On July 24, 2021 the Blue Angels performed their incredible flying feats for the Fargo Airsho in Fargo, North Dakota. Depicted are Blue Angels staff that support flying operations during demonstrations who are at the “Comm Cart” - a mobile cart that houses radio communication equipment, a remote weather station for winds and atmospheric pressure, light guns and binoculars. Starting on the left and moving right is a videographer - every show and practice demonstration is video taped to assist the pilots in perfecting their maneuvers. Next is Lt Monica Borza, the squadron’s flight surgeon and safety officer. She evaluates every maneuver very closely in several metrics for safety and precision. In front of her is Blue Angels Maintenance Officer (MO) Lt Brian Abe. He is in radio contact with the pilots, the airfield tower and his maintenance team. The voice you hear clearing the pilots to takeoff is Lt Abe. Next is Lt Henry Cedeño, the team’s Assistant MO. On the right side of the “Comm Cart” is the Squadron’s Executive Officer Cdr Todd Royles. Behind him is an enlisted staffer who “shoots” light signals to the pilots to verify the radio calls as to when conditions are safe for the next maneuver. Next is another enlisted staffer keeping track of other demonstration-related requirements. Lastly, in the field in front of the crowd is Blue Angel #7, Lt Julius Bratton, the show narrator and VIP orientation pilot. During the second year he will be the opposing solo, #6, and in his third year he will be the lead solo, #5. The solos have just completed a crossing maneuver and attention shifts to the diamond coming in for their next demo.
